GFS Classic II Alnico 2 Vintage Wound Nickel Humbucker.
All NEW and nearly 14 months in the making...
The new GFS Classic II's deliver the pure, warm, crisp vintage tone made famous by vintage Alnico II humbuckers, and adds a little more bottom and a little rounder high end.
If you're like me, you've tried a few "name brand" sets of Alnico 2 humbuckers. Always the same thing with me...yeah I dig the warmth and feel...you know what I mean- the tone oozing from your fingertips...but I'm always wanting just a little bit more...
Back to the lab!!
We found what we think is the perfect combination of Alnico magnet blend, magnetic Gauss, wind pattern and basic geometry. We wanted the warmth, the smokiness, the elegant mid-range and super clear high end AND just enough bottom end GRUNT and upper mid BITE. Compare these to pickups prices 2, 3 or even FOUR times the price... we have!
The result is a humbucker that sounds really smooth YET has enough hair on its sack (Sorry ladies) to drive a good tube amp. Bridge pickup wound to 8.2K, Neck to 7.8K. Smooth and warm enough for jazz playing, airy and transparent enough for convincing country pickin', big and FULL enough for classic rock. I know the real vintage A2 pickups were not potted- but trying to play a les paul in a nightclub with a loud amp without potting SUCKS, so we potted these in a much thinner blend of wax that goes on at a slightly lower temperature- less squeal, more tone. The non-magnetic German Silver base-plate ensures a relaxed, musical mid-range. The German Silver shell is neatly nickel plated for true classic looks.
Through a JTM45 Bluesbreaker combo they produce an incredible fat crunchy bite- through a 65 Twin they're clear and crisp, through a JCM2000 they're hard hitting yet instantly clean up as you back off.
Classic II's come with a 4 wire cable + shield, and come with a black staggered height pickup ring, four pickup ring screws and our famous illustrated instructions.
